Vibe dc nationally9/22/2023 ![]() ![]() As a company, Chase has been around for a long time. But did you know the octagon is meant to symbolize pipes? In this edition of Behind the Logo we look at the Chase logo.Ĭhase is the short form of JP Morgan Chase & Company. With so many Chase bank branches accross the United States, odds are you see this logo often in any given week. He was also given a DC Nation animated short that parodied the '80s cheese of his original incarnation, complete with a dance off against one of Ivo's robots. The Chase logo with it’s segmented blue octagon is a familiar part of our everyday lives. Played by actor Carlos Valdes, this has easily become Vibe's most iconic interpretation. These included precognitive "vibes," sonic-based powers, and interdimensional awareness. Cisco soon developed metahuman powers of his own that combined his two power sets in the comics. After Barry Allen gained his powers, Cisco and Caitlin Snow became two of his closest allies. ![]() That show's take on Cisco Ramon made him a highly intelligent scientist that worked for S.T.A.R. This version of Vibe informed the one seen on The CW's The Flash. Although he fought alongside old-school teammate Martian Manhunter, this version of the character was completely different, with his stereotyping and gang affiliations completely done away with. ![]() Thus, he was able to disrupt The Flash's powers and Speed Force connection, with his abilities earning him a spot on the Justice League of America. Likewise, his vibration powers were reinterpreted as involving interdimensional frequencies. Resetting continuity, this version of Vibe went by Cisco instead of nickname/middle name Paco. Nearly three years after his debut, Vibe returned to DC Comics via the New 52 reboot. ![]() It took decades for DC to finally revisit the maligned hero, and once he made his return, the character was quite different from before. In the mainstream comics, he died not too long after Crisis on Infinite Earths (also drawn by Pérez), with one of Doctor Ivo's robots choking him to death. For instance, the intercompany JLA/Avengers book merely had him trapped lifelessly under a pile of rubble. This included crossovers in which every member of the Justice League was given some sort of noticeable role. This didn't engender these new heroes too much longevity, and it took shedding the Tina Turned aesthetic for Vixen to really come into her own.Īs a sign of his dislike for Vibe, George Pérez rarely drew him. Conversely, Gypsy (who wasn't even a member of the Roma ethnicity, making her arguably more offensive than Vibe) was based on Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, while Vixen's appearance seemed to be heavily inspired by Tina Turner. Vibe seemed to be based on Adolfo Gutierrez Quiñones - a.k.a Shabba Doo - who was a popular breakdancer known for movies such as Breakin'. The breakdancing in particular instantly dated Vibe, but this wasn't the only part of him made to chase fads of the era. The former was drawn by George Pérez, and the popular artist took issue with the Detroit Justice League, namely Vibe. The newer heroes were an admitted attempt to capture the youthful energy of both New Teen Titans and Marvel Comics' Uncanny X-Men. The so-called "Detroit League" was somewhat unpopular among fans, especially since it didn't feature many of DC's biggest characters. Although Vixen later became a fairly beloved heroine, this wasn't reflected in her original Justice League team. Other members of the team included brand-new characters Vixen and Gypsy. It didn't seem like Vibe was cut out to be a hero, though Aquaman and Martian Manhunter's fears were put to rest when he valiantly fought against the group's newest threats. Using the moniker "Vibe," his new name reflected his sonic and vibration-based metahuman abilities. One such member was Francisco "Paco" Ramon, a local gang leader who gave up his streetwise ways in order to become a hero. Staying alongside the League's heart and soul Martian Manhunter, Aquaman relocated the team to Detroit and recruited local talent. He joined the new Justice League after it had been disbanded and reformed by Aquaman, who felt that classic members such as Superman and Batman were too busy with their other duties. Created by Gerry Conway and Chuck Patton, Vibe debuted in Justice League of America Annual #2. ![]()
